Earn money with Pinterest using Viraliti
Make money pinning..
I’ve recently sent details to my newsletter followers about a new way to earn money from Pinterest. It’s something you might not have heard about yet, so it seems a good idea to share it here too.
It’s a new scheme, run by a recent startup in India and I think they have a great idea of how you can use Pinterest to make recommendations to your followers and earn a little money from their clicks. No sales are required – its a pay per click scheme.
I signed up with them some weeks back, and they are still so new that they are in Beta mode right now – still testing. So you sign up and then wait – it’s a little like Pinterest was itself back in the beginning – you have to wait for an invitation to start pinning. After a while Viraliti will contact you and you are ready to start.
About Viraliti
Viraliti aims to connect brands with social media influencers (that’s us bloggers) and give brands the opportunity to sponsor Pins by popular pinners, in the hope of driving traffic to their site or products.
Once accepted, you are shown a range of pins that match your social media profile and you can pick which ones to promote. The picture and text are all written for you – just hit the Pin It button, select which board and it’s done – it only takes seconds. Each pin comes with the #ad hashtag to make sure you are complying with appropriate regulation.
It’s much like a sponsored tweet or post, except on Pinterest.
What’s in it for you? You will get paid for every click generated by your ‘Pinvertisment’. Your rate per click is dependent upon the number of followers and likes you have, with those pinners with the largest influence being more likely to get clicks, and so advertisers pay them a higher rate.
Once the campaign meets it target clicks or budget, it expires, and you will no longer earn from the clicks. You are free to remove the pin from your board at any time.
How much can you earn? Hard to say because the scheme is new and still in testing and they only have a few advertisers right now. Payout is by Paypal every 2 weeks once your balance gets to $30.
I think this one is worth signing up for and giving it a go. I don’t think it will make you rich. But you’ve got nothing to lose and if this starts to take off, you are in it to earn right at the start. Especially if you get a lot of referrals – read on.
Referral Scheme
Once you sign up with Viraliti and before you even get your invitation to start pinning, you will see your Affiliate link. Using this link you can refer your friends, colleagues, neighbors, business associates, blog readers etc to Viraliti. Why would you want to do that – because Viraliti has a referral program that pays you a share of their earnings too, and of the earnings from anyone they refer as well.
This is what Viraliti has to say:
Multi-level Referral policy
Now making money on Viraliti becomes even easier. You can earn extra money by referring Viraliti to your friends and family. Here is how the referral system works.
- Level One: Refer Viraliti to your friends and earn 7% of their earnings for the rest of your life. These friends are to referred to as your FIRST BUDDIES
- Level Two: Get 4% of the earning of the people who your FIRST BUDDIES refer Viraliti to. These people are on second level and hence are called your SECOND BUDDIES.
- Level Three: Get 2% of the earning of the people who your SECOND BUDDIES refer Viraliti to. These people are on third level and hence are called your THIRD BUDDIES.
Wanna be on my team? Sign up to Viraliti and let’s get pinning and earning!

This is exciting news! I just hope it doesn’t change the fun nature of pinterest and turn it into more of a business generator rather than a way to share ideas.

Hi Danielle. It can take a couple of weeks to receive your invitation to start pinning. If time goes by and you still don’t hear, they have a contact us link on their website and they have always replied to my emails very quickly. Drop them a line to show you care keen and ask to be invited soon…

I signed up! So, can anybody do this if they don’t have a blog or do you need a website? Thanks for the info

You don’t need a blog or website – just a pinterest account. But you do need a good number of followers for them to hopefully click your sponsored pins to earn you money.

How many followers do you need on pinterest in order to get approved? I just signed up….. and hoping I get approved.

The followers figure is not something they disclose, however they will look to see that you have a genuine account with good content and a certain number of followers otherwise it won’t be worth you pinning if no one is looking! The last I heard they were considering increasing it to a minimum of 500 followers, but I don’t know if this ever went ahead.

Sadly Viraliti is closing down after Pinterest announced that they would be introducing sponsored pins of their own, so I’ve not seen any new content or pins on Viraliti for a long time. Seemed like a good idea, but with Pinterest looking to make money off their own site, Viraliti was doomed I think.
